Our new Nishan Sahib is raised.

On Saturday 31 October 2026 the sangat of Guru Ka Niwas came together for the Nishan Sahib Seva. Here is how the day unfolded, from the langar kitchen at dawn to the moment the Nishan Sahib rose into the sky.

10.20am · Seva begins

Langar from first light.

Long before the programme began, sevadars were in the langar kitchen preparing food for everyone who would come.

Outside, the bare Nishan Sahib stood on its new foundation, waiting for its Chola Sahib.

Coming together.

Families from across Wolverhampton and beyond gathered in front of the Gurdwara as the Panj Pyare took their place at the entrance, in bana and with kirpans.

The Khanda.

The polished steel Khanda that crowns the Nishan Sahib was brought out and placed on a table covered in white, with the Panj Pyare standing behind it.

Washing the Nishan Sahib.

The Nishan Sahib was lowered and laid along a line of tables. One by one, members of the sangat came forward to wash it, their hands on the pole as water was poured over it.

It was a moment everyone could share in, young and old.

Sevadars then dressed the Nishan Sahib in its new orange Chola Sahib, tying it carefully along the whole length of the pole, with the Khanda at its tip.

Then, to jaikaras from the sangat, the Nishan Sahib was raised. It now stands in front of Guru Ka Niwas in its new Chola Sahib, with the Khanda shining at the top, for everyone passing to see.
